If you guys want the absolute best low deflection shafts in the market, you’re in the right place. Low deflection is the key to accuracy and cue ball control. What I’ve done is research on multiple sites and also talked to a lot of skilled pool players in person to determine what the best low deflection shafts in today’s market. Keep in mind, however, that these items are not necessarily all the highest-end custom cues or break cues. My goal in this post is to recommend only low-deflection shafts that are priced really well while still maintaining a highest-quality standard. Here is the list, be sure to check out a summary of each shaft below: Predator Revo Cuetec Cynergy 15K Carbon Composite Shaft Predator 314-3, Vantage, Z Shaft (Z-3) OB Pro+, OB-1/2+, OB XL+, OB-XL Classic+, OB-Classic+ Katana XS1/XS2 Lucasi Hybrid Zero Flexpoint /Slim The Best Brands of Low Deflection Shafts So before we jump into the best shafts I want to note the best brands for low deflection shafts. Now I know there seem to be a million different brands out there but I’ve narrowed it down to save you the work. There are only a handful of billiard brands that have been dominating the low deflection market and that’s: Predator OBI Meucci Katana Tiger Jacoby Edge McDermott Lucasi At this moment arguably Predator and OBI have been dominating in this market. They are by far the top 2 brands with the most recognition, sales, and quality. Here is a comparison chart of all the low deflection shafts by specifications (tip diameter, ferrule length, etc.) Cuetec Cynergy 15K Cuetec had a lot of buzz with their carbon fiber stick on the market, especially after pro player Shane Vanboening backed and sponsored the cue. The Revo and the Cynergy 15K are a tough choice, both are really fantastic choices if you want the lowest deflection a pool cue can offer. Predator Revo Shaft Predator’s latest Revo Shaft has taken the billiard world by storm. The all black Revo shaft introduces the latest billiard technology with a carbon fiber shaft. There are currently 2 models out with additional limited edition models. The main 2 Revo shafts are: Predator Revo 12.4 (It has a 12.4mm tip diameter) Pool Dawgs has it for $500ish Predator Revo 12.9 (It has a 12.9mm tip diameter) Pool Dawgs has it for $500ish Both of these shafts are impressive boasting of high accuracy, a light front end mass and durable construction. They also note: Most accurate Predator shaft at low and high speeds REVO Low-rise taper with 8% rise over the first 14 inches REVO Ferrule-less construction Limited-lifetime warranty against warpage R2 Molecular Multi-Density Foam V-TEK Fiber Tip Silencer Predator Z Shaft(s) 3rd Generation Next up on the list is the Predator Z Shaft 3rd Generation. Predator has been delivering the best low deflection shafts for a while and their Z Shaft’s are no exception. The different types of 3rd generation shafts include: Predator 314-3 Predator Z-3 Predator Vantage Each product of the 3rd generation line up is slightly different and it’ll be up to the player’s preference on which one they prefer. 314-3 The 314-3 boasts of a new front end construction with high-tech materials: V-Tek Construction V-Tek Fiber Tip Silencing iMatch 10-Piece splice construction Pro Taper Premium Predator 8 layer Victory Tip The 314-3 excels in all marks and is the most well rounded of the three. The 314-3 is lighter than the previous 314-2 in the front-end and even stronger than the previous. Tech Specs: Tip Diameter: 0.50″ (12.75mm) Taper: ProFerrule Length0.50″ (12.80mm) Joint: Various Tip: Predator Victory Tip (medium) Shaft Length: 29″ It certainly is my personal favorite of the three, especially because I own one personally. I don't enjoy an extremely small tip and the 314-3 was the perfect balance for that. Z-3 The Z-3 has the most flex with a small diameter. It’s lean and the new V-Tek construction lets the front be even lighter with a pin-point tip. The Z-3 is also much lighter than the previous Z-2. V-Tek Construction V-Tek Fiber Tip Silencing iMatch 10-Piece splice construction Conical-Hybrid Taper Premium Predator 8 layer Victory Tip Tech Specs: Tip Diameter: 0.46″ (11.85mm) Taper: Conical-Hybrid Ferrule Length0.40″ (10.10mm) Joint: Various Tip: Predator Victory Tip (medium) Shaft Length: 29″ Vantage The Vantage is by far the thickest and stiffest shaft of the three. It also has the lowest front-end mass and it backed by the ProV taper. This is the first generation of the Vantage and was recently introduced with the 3rd generation of Predator shafts. Patent Pending Vault-Plate Technology V-Tek Ferrule Construction V-Tek Fiber Tip Silencing iMatch 10-Piece splice construction ProV Taper Predator 8 layer Victory Tip One of the biggest differences that set the Vantage apart is the thickness of the diameter (12.90mm). Many folks will love this but other players will hate it. It will take time to get used to the large diameter of the tip and some may just abandon it completely for that reason. The big benefit of this thick tip is that it will hit more of the object ball allowing you to reach greater results. Tech Specs: Tip Diameter: 12.90mm Taper: Predator ProV Ferrule Length: 0.45″ (11.43mm) Joint: Various Tip: Predator Victory Tip (medium) Shaft Length: 29″ OB Cues OB Cues have been producing great performing products for a while. They have also brought great quality and a bonus for you guys in the United States, they are actually based out of Plano, Texas! That means no concerns that this product was made cheap from China out of bad quality. OB Shafts definitely belong on this list without a doubt. OB Pro + (Plus) The OB Pro+ is a great shaft boasting of a firm yet crisp hit. Providing extremely ultra-low deflection. Quick Specs: Firm, Crisp Hit Tip diameter: 11.75mm Ferrule: ⅜” White Linen Melamine Modified Conical Taper Ultra-Low Deflection I have personally shot with OB shafts before because my pool friends own their products. Each time I try out their cue, it performs outstandingly. My friends mention that its a great pool cue with a really good hit. They would highly recommend and would I. OB Classic Plus The OB Classic Plus features 13% Less tip end mass than the original OB shafts which means...WAY less cueball deflection. (Awesome) That's right, Warranty = Lifetime! I think this is great that companies still do this today. There are a lot of companies out there who are just looking to make a dime and it makes me happy to see OB offering a great warranty on their products. Other great OB models are the: OB Plus OB-1 Plus OB XL Plus OB XL Classic You literally cannot go wrong with any OB shaft, they are overall really great billiard products. Katana Shafts The Katana KATXS1 Low deflection shaft is amazing. Katana has made a more affordable low deflection shaft with its shaft being constructed with 10 pieces of radial lamination. It has a shorter 3/8" ferrule and the new 12.5mm Katana Tip by of course Tiger. The KATXS1 is on sale now at Pool Dawg. Quick Specs: 12.5mm Katana by Tiger 3/8" Fiber Ferrule Shaft is 29" 10 Radial Spliced Hardrock maple pieces 18" Pro Taper Joints are 5/16x14, 5/16x18, 3/8x10, 3/8x8, Uni-Loc, Cuetec, Scorpion 1 year Manufacturer Warranty The reviews on this product are astounding at nearly every review rating it 5 stars. It's hard to not include Katana on the list when they get you the best bang for your buck in terms of a low deflection shaft. Players saw a big difference from their old shaft and improved accuracy with their shots. Even improvements in their ball control too. They loved the look and feel of this cue at that price - it's hard to beat. Recommended Tip: Kamui Tip! P.S - The Slim version of this is out if you want a smaller tip diameter. The KATXS2. Conclusion I know this list will change in the future - but that's all I have on the list now. In the end, the Revo has completely set itself apart from the other shafts on the market. Predator alone has set its mark in my opinion as for the #1 low deflection shaft champion. It's hard to go wrong with any of these on the list though - they are all amazing low deflection shafts.
